CHRIS’ STORY
BORN FOR SPEED
Chris was born to move and to move fast. As soon as he could walk he tromped around the yard in skis. He learned to ski, ice-skate and ride a bike all before the age of 3. These were all things that were expected for a youngster to do who was raised in beautiful Vail, Colorado. But no one could believe just how good he was–His talents in these three sports became evident very early on. He loved to ski the trees and raise hell in Hairbag Alley on Vail Mountain at the young age of four. The Chair 6 lift ops used to have to kick him out of line at dusk—had there been lights on Golden Peak, he would have skied through the night. Nothing was ever too steep, too bumpy or too dangerous.
Competing and racing began early. Often he would take the first run of a ski race in the morning, ride the bus to the hockey rink for a game and get back in time for a second run and a gold medal. When the snow was gone, he was racing a road or mountain bike as fast as he could pedal. His collection of medals and trophies fill an entire room.
THE ROAD TO 2010
Chris has always dreamed of racing in the Olympics. He never imagined that the gladiator-style sport of Ski Cross would take him there. Just as he did as a child, he is now gathering at the top of the hill and racing down the hill over bumps and jumps. Thanks to his father’s Canadian citizenship, he is now on the best team in the World with some the best team-mates in the World. He has embraced his Canadian heritage and has developed quite a fan base around the world.
As he embarks on his second year as a member of the Canadian Ski Cross Team, also known as “The eh team”, he has all of the pieces in place to lead him to his ultimate goal of a Gold Medal in 2010. Watch for Chris on the World Cup tour and at the Winter X-Games—he’ll be there and ready to win!
WHEN NOT SKIING
Chris also races downhill mountain bikes professionally, although this has taken a back seat to his ski racing for the time being. He also loves to hit the greens for a round of golf…his golf game is a work in progress. He loves to read and listen to music, his I-Pod is always bumping, usually Hip Hop and Reggae, but he is down with just about anything. Chris enjoys taking time out to play with his hounds (Jez the German shepherd and Hanz and Franz the dachshunds).
